Scientific Name Fringilla coelebs moreletti
Description Breeds in all types of woodland, in parks and gardens. Builds a neat nest in the fork of tree branches, exterior camouflaged with lichen and moss. Head and part of the back are blue to grey, rest of the back is greenish; wings and tail are black and white; throat and breast are pinkish. Beak is lead coloured. Legs are pinkish-brown. Females’ plumage is more subtle, mainly in browns.
Taxonomic Status Subspecies endemic to the Azores.
Phenological Status Resident
Conservation Status The species is not listed in the Red Book of Vertebrates of Portugal. At the European level, classified as Not Threatened, with the situation considered Safe.
