Scientific Name Estrilda astrild
Description Breeds in riparian vegetation and reeds. Slightly smaller than a Canary. Plumage is greyish-brown with a red stripe on the belly. Short, strong beak is bright red, as is the stripe across the eyes. Commonly flies low, almost always in small groups, at times in large flocks.
Taxonomic Status Exotic species, originally from sub-Saharan Africa, introduced/escaped from captivity.
Phenological Status Some birds have been observed in the SPA, but there is no confirmation of its breeding there.
Conservation Status This is a non-European exotic species and therefore it has no European conservation status.
