Scientific Name Oryctolagus cuniculus
Description Hunted species, introduced to the Azores by the Portuguese navigators. Has grey-brown fur, darker on the head than the back, but ventral and external area of hips are white. Hind legs are long and light grey-brown, with a wide white stripe. Nails are long and sharp, indispensable tools for digging burrows and to help it escape quickly.
