The 9th Annual Days of Priolo is taking place on the 21st, 22nd and 23rd of November 2014 in Nordeste. This conference has been coordinated by the Portuguese Society for the Study of Birds (SPEA) through the Environmental Center of Priolo under the LIFE + Lands of Priolo project in partnership with the Nordeste Primary and Secondary Schools, as well as the Vocational School of Nordeste with the support of the Municipality of Nordeste. This conference will have elements present from various entities, including the Regional Directorate of Forestry, Agricultural Development Services of São Miguel, Natural Park of the island of São Miguel, Azores Microbial Observatory and Cresaçor.
These events include free entry and consist of diverse lectures on topics such as biodiversity, conservation, and sustainable development commencing on November 21st at the Municipal Centre for Cultural Activities.
On November 22nd at 19:00 hours there will be a short presentation regarding the LIFE + Lands of Priolo project resulting from a partnership between SPEA and the Regional Secretariat for Agriculture and Environment (RAAS), co-funded by the LIFE program of the European Community.
This year, the program for this conference included a call for action for volunteers, specifically for the plantation of native and endemic species in the Laurel Forest of the Azores focusing in the areas targeted by the LIFE + Lands of Priolo project. Thus, SPEA calls attention to the Indigenous Forest World Day, November 23rd, which celebrates a priority habitat in the Azores. At the conclusion of this event, there will be a small gathering to celebrate the 19 years of the accomplishments of SPEA. This event is free and requires mandatory registration through http://centropriolo.spea.pt/pt/atividades/.
