Investment of nearly 60 million Euros in housing is demonstration of Autonomy, says Vasco Cordeiro
The President of the Government said today that the Government has invested nearly 60 million Euros in the area if housing in this legislative period. The support to Azorean families is also a demonstration of Regional Autonomy.
"From the moment when the Government entered into office to the present time, the volume of investment in housing comes close to 60 million Euros, which has supported more than 4,500 Azorean families over this period," said Vasco Cordeiro.
In this statutory visit to São Jorge, which began today, the Regional Government will approve the authorisation of a total of 34 support measure for the recovery of degrading housing on this island, corresponding to an investment of nearly 800 thousand Euros.
This new support package will improve the living conditions of about 150 people, including 26 children and an equal number of seniors.
During the ceremony, the President of the Government stressed that the Government has been able to support several hundred families in the improvement of housing conditions and the fulfilment of their right to have adequate housing.
"Basically, what we have done here today is also our reason for being and exercising our Autonomy. More than an article in the Constitution, it represents the ability of us, Azoreans, to look after the interests of the Azorean people," stressed Vasco Cordeiro.
In his speech, the President of the Government stressed that the support allocated in the area of housing "is not the support of the Government," but of all Azoreans, which is why there should be co-responsibility in the way they are used by beneficiaries.
According to Vasco Cordeiro, social support measures such as these embody the practical implementation of our goal of "leaving no one behind and help, within the limits our resources, all those in our society that are in a more fragile situation."
"I hope that these support measures can effectively improve the housing conditions of beneficiaries, thus fulfilling the goal of being an increasingly cohesive and solidarity-based Region," said the President of the Government.
