The President of the Government welcomed on Friday athlete Carolina Bento, who became the World Karate champion in the Kata category at the championships that took place in Poland in late September.
The athlete from the Ponta Delgada Shotokan Dojo Club won the gold medal in the age group of cadets (16 to 17 years old), a feat that Vasco Cordeiro considered to be a "source of pride" to the Azores and it should serve as "inspiration for Azorean youngsters."
"The excellent performance of Carolina Bento in this World Championship demonstrates that dedication and commitment are the right path towards success. This is another good example evidencing that the Azores are able compete with the best in several sports," stressed Vasco Cordeiro.
The participation of Carolina Bento in the World Championship held in Poland, accompanied by coach Fernando Vicente, was supported by the Regional Director for Tourism under the strategy to promote the Azores abroad, taking into account the relevance of representing the Region in an international event.
