Regional Government to grant forest land concession on São Miguel Island for installation of tree adventure park
The Regional Secretariat for Agriculture and Forestry, through the Regional Directorate for Forest Resources, will grant the concession of private land on the island of São Miguel for the installation of the first tree adventure park in the Azores, contributing to the promotion of the Forest and the diversification of the tourism offer.
The concession authorization, for a 10 year-period, corresponds to a parcel of land with an extension of 1.6 hectares located in Grená Wood on the northern shore of Furnas Lake in the municipality of Povoação. It was published today in Official Journal, following the approval of the decision at the last meeting of the Council of the Government, which met on the island of Pico.
Besides the promotion and dissemination of forest areas, the installation of the first Azorean tree adventure park next to Furnas Lake is primarily aimed at reducing the intense tourist pressure on the site and creating alternative points of interest, thus safeguarding forest species.
Likewise, this new private project will contribute to the diversification of the tourism offer and the creation of new jobs.
Tree adventure is a form of radical physical activity, which consists of crossing between platforms mounted on trees and overcoming different types of obstacles such as stairs and suspended bridges, among others.
The next step will be the launch of the public tender to be published as early as next week so that those interested can present proposals and the project can be implemented.
