Innovating and adding more value to production are priorities for the future of the Azorean agricultural sector, says João Ponte
The Regional Secretary for Agriculture and Forestry stated today on the island of Terceira that investing in innovation and adding more value to production are priorities for the future of the agricultural sector in the Azores, contributing to the improvement of income throughout the value chain.
“After all the evolution we have undergone in terms of the quality of our agricultural production, it is important to reinforce, in the future, the investment in innovation, differentiation and creation of more value to what we produce and process whether in milk, meat or agricultural diversification,” said João Ponte. As he emphasised, the entire sector must be united and mobilised towards the accomplishment of this goal.
The government official spoke on the sidelines of the visit to the company Quinta dos Açores. On the occasion, he considered a “good example” of those willing to innovate, always striving for the rigour, quality and differentiation of their products, both in terms of dairy products and certified meat production, without forgetting the catering component.
For João Ponte, it is important to highlight examples of existing success in the Azores. In fact, they should be a motivation to overcome this challenging phase that we are going through and prove that it is possible to do more and better, boosting the regional agri-food sector to another level of development, qualification and excellence.
