The Regional Secretary for Agriculture and Forestry authorised in 2019 the granting of support up to the limit of 64 thousand Euros to seven animal welfare associations in the Azores. It is intended to reinforce and promote the efforts undertaken by these entities on daily basis towards animal welfare.
"This year, two more applications were approved compared to 2018, which evidences the Regional Government's recognition and appreciation of the efforts undertaken by these entities; they deserve to be recognised by the society in general," said João Ponte.
According to the government official, this amount is intended to finance actions such as vaccination, sterilisation, deworming, electronic identification, feeding and veterinary care of animals in the custody of associations.
The seven applications approved this year concern animal welfare associations located on the islands of Faial, Pico, Terceira and São Miguel, covering more than eight hundred animals.
The new financial reimbursement scheme for animal welfare associations in the Azores, which came into force in March 2018, stipulates 10 thousand Euros as the maximum amount to be allocated per association.
