Scheme on certification of liqueur wines with designation of origin "Graciosa," "Biscoitos" and "Pico" published today
The Regional Secretariat for Agriculture and Forestry published today in the Official Journal the ordinance establishing the applicable scheme on the designation, presentation and labelling of liqueur wine bearing the denomination of origin (DO) "Graciosa," "Biscoitos" and "Pico."
The scheme considers, that in the context of the national wine sector, the specificity of these wines requires us to define and provide traditional designations in the regulation, along with a series of administrative procedures and specific use and identification rules.
Moreover, the method of labelling should be suited to the legislation, taking into account the experience of the certifying body and the industry needs in order to adapt itself to market requirements.
The new regional legislation is of utmost importance to maintain the identity of a long-standing tradition. It requires the establishment of an effective individualisation of wines bearing the denomination of origin (DO) "Graciosa," "Biscoitos" and "Pico" to consumers in a competitive context.
