Scouts are key partners in the education of Azorean children and young people, says Isabel Rodrigues
The Regional Secretary of the Presidency for Parliamentary Affairs stated in Praia da Vitória that the Government of the Azores regards scouts as "key partners in the construction of a better world through the education of Azorean children and young Azoreans."
Isabel Rodrigues spoke Friday at the opening of the 4th INDABA and 3rd RenovAçores on behalf of the President of the Government. This initiative is promoted by the Regional Delegation of the National Scouts Corp (CNE). It consists of a series of seminars and training activities directed to more than two hundred rover scouts and leaders from all islands that takes place on the island of Terceira during the weekend.
In her speech, Isabel Rodrigues stressed the importance of "emphasising" the fact that CNE scouts are represented throughout the archipelago, from Santa Maria to Corvo.
"In each of our communities there is a group of scouts developing activities, captivating youngsters and contributing to their training," said the government official.
For the Regional Secretary, "young people of today will be the leaders of tomorrow and are valuable asset for the development of any community. All of us, as adult citizens in the different roles we play in our lives, have a great responsibility, which is to take care of young people so that when they will be ready for the full exercise of their freedom. Hence, they will become active and participating citizens, who will effectively contribute to their communities. In short, we want them to be happy citizens."
"There are also citizens playing a key role, through individual efforts or involved in the work of institutions, which is not complementary to the role of families and schools. It is a parallel role in the construction the identity of young people while they are in the process of building their autonomy. This is the case of the scouts," added the government official.
In this regard, the Regional Government "has sought to support your activities with a high sense of duty."
The Azores have a large number of youth associations and organisations as well as a large number of activities developed by young people collectively or individually, stressed Isabel Rodrigues. The Secretary noted that "the Regional Government has sought to maintain a series of support measures that, with criteria transparency and fairness, are able to cover all the activities developed in the Region and, in this context, scouts have deserved special attention."
