The Regional Director for Communities begins Saturday a visit to Canada, during which he will take part in the celebrations of the 30th anniversary of the House of the Azores of Ontario in Toronto as well as in the Cultural Week organised by the House of the Azores of Winnipeg.
This visit aims to further strengthen the relations between the Government of the Azores and Azorean communities in the Diaspora, with special emphasis on the relation between the Regional Directorate for Communities with the Houses of the Azores, in this case with those located in the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Manitoba.
On the first day of his visit, Paulo Teves will participate in the celebrations of the 30th anniversary of the House of the Azores of Ontario, which will take place at the auditorium of that institution; the latter promoted earlier this month the 18th Cultural Week under the theme "Our Origins."
Founded in 1985, the House of the Azores of Ontario is a space that brings together Azorean and Azorean descendants living in this Canadian province. This cultural embassy also promotes Azorean culture and traditions, being a fundamental tool for the social cohesion of the community and the creation of bridges that bring the Diaspora closer to the Azores.
On the following day, Sunday, the Regional Director for Communities visits Winnipeg where he will take part in the closing session of the 15th Cultural Week of the Azores. The event takes place at the headquarters of House of the Azores, the institution representing the Azoreans and their descendants in the Province of Manitoba.
The event, held under the title "Azores, earthly paradise," aims to promote interculturalism, dialogue and interaction between the Azores, Azorean descendants and the Portuguese community residing in that region.
The programme of this cultural week includes traditional singing challenges featuring artists from the archipelago and the communities, Holy Spirit soups, performances of folk dance and traditional Portuguese music groups, among other activities.
