The Government of the Azores in partnership with the North American Portuguese Teachers Association (APPEUC) and SATA International promotes the 2014 edition of APPEUC Award - School Papers Contest.
Held under the title "“Açores: 9 Ilhas, 9 Histórias” (Azores: 9 Islands, 9 Stories), this initiative is targeted at students aged between 13 and 17, who are attending Portuguese community schools in the United States and U.S. public Secondary Schools offering courses on Portuguese language and culture.

This project also promotes the strengthening of ties between the Azores and their communities, with special emphasis on ties of Azorean descendants to their roots.
Participants may submit their works in written (prose or poetry), video, audio and PowerPoint format or in other type of multimedia support. Each student may only one unpublished work, which should be written in English.
The three best works in each category - Portuguese community schools in the United States and U.S. public Secondary Schools - will win a one-trip to the Azores that will include a recreational/educational programme.
The deadline for the submission of works ends on April 25. Those who are interested may consult the contest rules and further information at the electronic address: http://appeuc.org/ email address.
