Regional Government urges Canadian entrepreneurs to invest and promote the Azores
The Regional Assistant Secretary of the Presidency for External Relations stressed in Angra do Heroísmo the Regional Government's interest in raising the awareness of Canadian entrepreneurs for investments in the Region, calling for their involvement in the promotion and dissemination of the archipelago.
Rui Bettencourt spoke Friday at the end of a meeting with the President of the Federation of Portuguese-Canadian Business & Professionals, Michelle Jorge, stressing that the Azores have "great investment areas."
"Our role, the role of the Government, is to bring the Canadian entrepreneurs closer to the business opportunities that the Azores have to offer," the government official said, stressing that these Luso-Canadian or Canadian entrepreneurs "would like to invest in the Azores."
In this regard, he considered that the President of the Federation of Portuguese-Canadian Business & Professionals is "a great ally" for being "someone who is passionate about the Azores and she is Azorean," and for that reason she will direct towards the Regional Government "the willingness of Canadian entrepreneurs to invest in the Azores."
The meeting with Michelle Jorge, which was also attended by the Regional Director for Communities, Paulo Teves, had "a double meaning," said Rui Bettencourt. On the one hand, it was a meeting with someone who belongs to the third generation of Azoreans in Canada, "a generation of great quality," and, on the other hand, it was important for the links of this young lawyer, whose roots are on Flores Island, to the Federation and to more than a thousand Portuguese Canadian entrepreneurs. According to the government official, it "represents a huge force in Canada's economy, with a considerable Azorean influence."
This meeting also served to prepare a meeting of Canadian entrepreneurs with SDEA - Society for Business Development of the Azores, which will take place at the meeting of the World Council of Houses of the Azores in September in the city of Toronto. During the event, the Azores will present all investment possibilities they have to offer.
