The Ponta Delgada Port is expecting three cruise ports of call on May 14, which corresponds to about 10 thousand tourists on board and for that purpose; a special tourist animation programme is being prepared to welcome these visitors.
By initiative of the Regional Secretariat for the Economy, through the São Miguel Tourism Delegation, the first meeting to coordinate the tourist animation actions to be developed on May 14 took place on Tuesday.
One should stress that it will be the first time that nearly 10,000 tourists will visit the island of São Miguel on the same day.
Hence, the Regional Secretariat for the Economy, in a joint initiative with other entities such as the Regional Centre for Handicrafts, Ports of the Azores, Port Administration of São Miguel and Santa Maria, Azores Tourism Association, “Portas do Mar” Association and the Açoreana and TUI travel agencies have joined efforts to create a tourist animation programme, promoting several initiatives to welcome these tourists.
In this context, these initiatives are intended to promote the Azores, with special emphasis on local trade and restaurants, thus enhancing the potentialities brought by cruise ports of call.
