Government supports application of the Azores Gastronomic Brotherhood for the Gastronomic Wonders of Portugal
The Government of the Azores will support the Azores Gastronomic Brotherhood (CGA) to submit the regional applications for the new contest “7 Gastronomic Wonders of Portugal” which, likewise the contest “7 Wonders of Portugal,” is also organised by New Seven Wonders Portugal.
According to Miguel Cymbron, the Regional Director for Tourism, “this type of initiatives is very important for the promotion of the Azores destination in the national market” since “gastronomy is one of the key products that significantly boost the Region’s reputation abroad.”
For the Regional Director for Tourism, “the contest will highlight our most traditional products, asserting their quality as well as their specificity in the national context.”
Miguel Cymbron stressed that this application “is the result of an objective strategy developed by the Azorean Government to promote Tourism” as it was demonstrated “last year with the organisation of the contest “7 Natural Wonders of Portugal,” which the Region joined, with great benefits for our projection in the national market as well as for the assertion of the Azores as a Nature destination of excellence.”
The contest “7 Gastronomic Wonders” was created with the purpose of disseminating and promoting the national gastronomic heritage, which is recognised and appreciated worldwide for its diversity, but also as an aspect that can be enhanced in the choice of Portugal as a tourist destination.
Under this project, the Azorean Government, through the Regional Secretariat for the Economy, will award a financial support to the Azores Gastronomic Brotherhood through the support scheme for “initiatives of relevant interest for the promotion of tourism in the Azores” and also “in the preparation and submission of the applications that might be selected by the Brotherhood.”
