Regional Government promotes creative residency for artisans from the Azores and Cape Verde
The Vice-Presidency of the Government, through the Regional Centre for Handicrafts (CRAA) holds a creative residency between the Azores and Cape Verde in Ponta Delgada from January 14.
The "Creative Residency in Ceramics and Plant Fibres" aims to develop experiences towards the promotion of interculturality and the creation of new products based on natural resources, combining innovation and tradition. It also intends to invest in the exchange of expertise and techniques among Azorean and Cape Verdean artisans.
This regional initiative is developed in partnership with GRATER - Regional Development Association of Terceira Island with the purpose of contributing to the development of innovation projects based on the most emblematic traditional arts and crafts of the archipelago.
The creative residency will be guided by Kathi Stertzig and Álbio Nascimento, through The Home Project Design Studio, under the Craft & Art project. It will take place between January 14 and 26, involving the participation of two artisans from Cape Verde, two from Terceira, one from São Miguel and three from Santa Maria in the areas of ceramics and vegetable fibres.
In 2005, Álbio Nascimento and Kathi Stertzig opened The Home Project Design Studio, a space dedicated to the design and implementation of regional development strategies through local craft production and design.
The Craft & Art - Empowering for Innovation project proposes a training-based approach to craft activities, focusing on the development of entrepreneurship and innovation skills, which will allow craft production units to diversify and differentiate their products.
