The Regional Secretariat for Education, Science and Culture promotes a debate on the implementation of the "Fénix" Project to combat school failure. The event will be held in Água de Pau, São Miguel Island, on Friday.
The 1st "Fénix Açores" Seminar, which is coordinated by the Regional Directorate for Education, will take place at Água de Pau Basic Education School, starting at 10 AM, with the purpose of "promoting the sharing of experiences and disseminating the project among the schools that are still not covered by this initiative."
The "Fénix" Project was developed by a group of schools from Póvoa de Varzim. Currently, it is being implemented on an experimental stage at Graciosa Basic Education School, Água de Pau and Lagoa Basic Education Schools and at Lagoa Secondary School.
This project, targeted at elementary, middle school and junior high school levels, is based on a model that provides a more personalised support to students with learning difficulties in Portuguese and Mathematics, through the creation of other learning environments.
The 1st "Fénix - Açores" Seminar, whose opening session will be presided over by the Regional Secretary for Education, Science and Culture, will be attended by the project's coordinator. The event also features a lecture titled as "Passos para a construção de mais sucesso escolar” (Steps towards the construction of school success) by Joaquim Azevedo, professor at the Catholic University.
