Government of the Azores awards contract work for the rehabilitation of Manadas Church on São Jorge Island
The Regional Secretariat for Culture and Education awarded today the contract work for the rehabilitation of Santa Bárbara Church in Manadas on São Jorge Island. The intervention covers the structural rehabilitation of the roof and restoration of the coffered ceiling as well as of other decorative elements of the ceiling and walls.
The contract work was awarded to the company Pavijorge – Sociedade Técnica de Pavimentos e Construção Civil de S. Jorge, Lda. for the amount of 400 thousand Euros and has a completion period of 365 days.
According to the order signed by Avelino Meneses, the intervention follows a "thorough inspection" that was carried out on the roof of this parish church, classified as property of public interest since 1950.
The order also states that "the intervention carried out in the 1980s, in addition to damaging the structural system of the ceiling, caused severe damage to the roof structure."
