"O Livreiro de Santiago" and "PDL-LIS" win "Ayres d'Aguiar" Regional Cinema and Audiovisual Prize
The films "O Livreiro de Santiago" by José Manuel Rodrigues Martins de Medeiros and "PDL-LIS" by Diogo Silva Lima were the winners of the first edition of the "Ayres d'Aguiar" Regional Cinema and Audiovisual Prize in the Fiction and Documentary categories, respectively, according to the announcement of the Regional Directorate for Culture published today in the Official Journal.
The jury, composed of Manuel Bernardo Cabral, as a member of the Regional Council of Culture, director António Pedro Vasconcelos and Anabela Branco Oliveira, film critic, has also decided to award an honourable mention in the Documentary category to the film “O Funeral Artístico do Projetista” by Luís Filipe da Silva Bicudo.
The "Ayres d'Aguiar" Regional Cinema and Audiovisual Prize aims to reward every, two years, regional film-makers and acknowledge the value of regional cultural activities in cinema and audiovisuals, particularly in the Fiction, Documentary and Animation categories.
When naming this prize after Ayres de Faria e Maya d'Aguiar, the Government of the Azores pays tribute to this Azorean filmmaker. During his career in French and international cinema, he has always maintained "strong and permanent ties" with his land of origin, where he lived the last years of his life.
