The list containing the bathing waters to be identified in the Autonomous Region of the Azores in 2015 is under public consultation until January 31.
This public consultation arises under the regional legislation and aims to provide citizens with the opportunity to express their opinions, suggestions, complaints and comments on this matter.
"The quality of bathing waters is important not just in terms of public health, but also because it is an indicator of environmental quality and tourism development," said the Regional Director for Sea Affairs.
According to Filipe Porteiro, "the fact that certain bathing waters are not identified does not mean that they do not meet the quality requirements for bathing purposes." The government official added that "it only means that the managing entities have not taken the necessary procedures provided in the legislation."
The consultation is conducted by the Regional Secretariat for the Sea, Science and Technology, through the Regional Directorate for Sea Affairs, and is available on the Portal of the Government at the following electronic address: www.azores.gov.pt.
In order to participate in the public consultation on bathing waters, citizens may submit their contribution to the Regional Directorate for Sea Affairs at Rua Cônsul Dabney, Colónia Alemã, Apartado 140, 9900-014 or, preferably, to the email [email protected].
