EMERGENCE@Açores - Science and Creativity at Arquipélago Contemporary Arts Centre in April
The Regional Government, through the Regional Directorate for Science and Technology and the Regional for Science and Technology, promotes the EMERGENCE@Açores - Science and Creativity at Arquipélago - Contemporary Arts Centre in Ribeira Grande from April 14 to 18.
The Regional Director for Science and Technology said the event will bring together scientists, programmers and artists, among other participants, to "develop effective approaches and strategies towards the communication of complex scientific concepts by leveraging digital media technologies."
According to Bruno Pacheco, the goal is "to awaken creativity and critical thinking, encouraging citizens to become involved in a collaborative process of science communication and, thus, promoting the so-called 'citizen science'."
Considered a hackathon, that is, a programming and development marathon, EMERGENCE@Açores - Science and Creativity falls within the Action Plan for the Scientific and Technological Culture of the Azores (PACCTO Açores), launched in 2018. According to the Regional Director, it is "a reference framework for the promotion of scientific education and the dissemination of scientific culture" in the archipelago.
Bruno Pacheco stressed that "we must continue to focus on science and technology, engineering, mathematics, robotics and programming." In this context, the Regional Government has promoted "a series of initiatives intended to disseminate scientific and digital literacy as well as to establish a link between art, science and culture, always bearing in mind the promotion of creativity."
During the five-day event, participants will be "in a collaborative environment, exploring digital media technologies with focus on the creation of stories for linear experiences," said the Regional Director.
