The 6th Regional Trauma Championship - Islands 2018, held in Madeira during the weekend, featured the participation of five Azorean teams, four of which were selected for the National Trauma Championship.
In the Standard Test, Faial Volunteer Firefighters won first place. In turn, B team of Praia da Vitória fire brigade came in second and the team of São Roque do Pico fire brigade came in third.
As for the Complex Test, the São Roque do Pico Volunteer Firefighters were placed first, followed by the A team of Praia da Vitória Volunteer Firefighters that came in second. The Nordeste Volunteer Firefighters came in third.
With these scores, Azorean teams came first in the general classification of the Regional Trauma Championship.
The São Roque do Pico Volunteer Firefighters won 1st place, B team of Praia da Vitória Volunteer Firefighters won 2nd place, Nordeste Volunteer Firefighters won 3rd place and A team of Praia da Vitória Volunteer Firefighters came in 4th place. These four Azorean teams were selected for the National Trauma Championship, which will take place in Ponte de Sor between June 1 and 3.
The winners will represent Portugal at the World Rescue Challenge 2018 to take place in Cape Town, South Africa.
Last year, a team of Praia da Vitória Volunteer Firefighters won the 1st place in the World Trauma Championship, held in Romania.
The Regional Trauma Championship is considered by the National Rescue and Extrication Association (ANSD) as a platform for learning, comparing techniques and acquiring skills through several tests, according to the methodology adopted by the World Rescue Organisation (WRO).
Overall, 14 firefighters represented the Autonomous Region of the Azores in the event, featuring five regional teams from the following humanitarian association of volunteer firefighters: Praia da Vitória (two teams), Faial, Nordeste and São Roque do Pico. The Regional Government supported their participation in the competition.
