Regional Government promotes pioneering course for Civil Protection municipal agents
The Regional Secretary for Health participated in Angra do Heroísmo in the beginning of the Course on Civil Protection Planning and Emergency Management, a pioneering training course directed to local Civil Protection agents.
"In each municipality, municipal services are the entities endowed with management powers in the event of a catastrophe and, therefore, there should be an efficient coordination between the regional service and municipal services," said Rui Luís at the opening of this training course.
The Course on Civil Protection Planning and Emergency Management includes 15 training courses that will be taught by accredited teachers. It is expected to certify three hundred Civil Protection municipal agents from all municipalities of the Azores in a total of 180 hours of training.
The initiative aims to provide participants with theoretical and practical knowledge that will allow them to develop Civil Protection emergency management skills at municipal level. Moreover, the course will also focus on the preparation of Emergency Plans in planning processes as well as on the interpretation and application of criteria and technical standards for the preparation and implementation of Civil Protection Emergency Plans.
"Throughout two years, the training course will provide municipalities with more skills so they may update their emergency plans when needed," Rui Luís said, adding that "they all have their emergency plans, but new requirements arise, namely the growth of tourism."
The Regional Secretary also highlighted the importance of Civil Protection in the Region, stressing that the implementation of this type of initiatives aims to "increasingly strengthen its awareness in the Azores."
