Regional Director for Housing highlights importance of lease scheme with purchase option for young families
The Regional Director for Housing stressed in Santa Cruz das Flores the importance of the Regional Government's support through the lease scheme with purchase option, especially for young couples, “whom banks do not grant housing loans under favourable conditions."
Orlando Goulart spoke during the signing of a contract for the allocation of a 3-bedroom dwelling in Terça neighbourhood on lease scheme with purchase option, following the public tender launched this year for the allocation of six dwellings on four islands. This measure represented a Regional government's investment of about 700 thousand Euros.
The Regional Director emphasised that this tender embodies the Government's commitment to promote access to permanent housing through the lease scheme with purchase option.
“This family will benefit from an affordable income and will also have the possibility of purchasing the dwelling as soon as the financial conditions to do so are met. The lease amounts already paid will be deducted from the price to be paid by the family at the time of purchase,” stated Orlando Goulart.
"Hence, the Regional Government responds to the need to provide access to permanent housing for a portion of the population that has been experiencing difficulties in this area in some areas of the archipelago," added the government official.
In addition to this dwelling on Flores Island, the Government has also delivered another two 3-bedroom dwellings in Dores neighbourhood in Santa Cruz da Graciosa, another 3-bedroom dwelling in Urzelina neighbourhood on São Jorge Island and two 4-bedroom dwellings in Lombas II neighbourhood in Vila do Porto, Santa Maria Island. All dwellings were allocated under a lease scheme with purchase option.
