Regional Director for Housing highlights investment policy in rehabilitation of degraded housing
The Regional Director for Housing highlighted on São Miguel Island the improvements that have been made in the regional housing stock as a result of a "strong investment policy in the rehabilitation of degraded housing."
Orlando Goulart spoke Monday during a visit to the civil parish of Covoada in the municipality of Ponta Delgada. On the occasion, he said it is "very gratifying to see that the regional tax money is efficiently spent as evidenced by the happiness of the families whose housing conditions have been substantially improved through this investment.
The Regional Director visited homes rehabilitated with funds transferred to the Parish Council, through a collaboration agreement signed with the Regional Secretariat for Social Solidarity. According to him, hey have fostered the urban rehabilitation of several Azorean civil parishes.
This type of cooperation between the Regional Government and local authorities helps families with more difficulties in managing financial support, in addition to solving some cases that cannot be solved with conventional support.
The improved conservation of the Region's housing stock stems from the strong investment in the recovery of degraded housing that the Government of the Azores has maintained in recent years. In the current legislative period, it amounted to about 13 million Euros authorised for the rehabilitation of housing, covering around 1,000 families.
This investment also includes funds indirectly allocated to Azorean families, through collaboration agreements signed with parish councils and protocols with Private Social Solidarity Institutions.
