Andreia Cardoso restates Regional Government's commitment to renew housing stock on Flores and Corvo
The Regional Secretary for Social Solidarity stressed today in Santa Cruz das Flores the effort that has been carried out by the Government of the Azores in the area of housing on the islands Flores and Corvo. The government official spoke during the signing ceremony of seven protocols with families for the renewal of degraded housing.
"In the last six years, two million Euros have been invested in the renewal of degraded housing in the Western Group as well as in another important area: the support to the acquisition of housing," said Andreia Cardoso.
Therefore, the Regional Secretary underlined that the contracts signed today evidence the Regional Government's commitment to promote the access to permanent housing, thus fulfilling its commitment to create the conditions for the maintenance of families on Flores and tackle desertification of some villages and hamlets.
According to Andreia Cardoso, the Regional Government will continue investing in the renewal of the Region's housing stock, through the launch of public call for tender for contract works and the awarding of support to families, which will contribute to the maintenance of population on the islands of Flores and Corvo.
"We cannot forget that all Azoreans contribute to the implementation of this housing support policy," the Regional Secretariat underlined, calling for a thorough and transparent management of the funds allocated to families.
During the morning, Andreia Cardoso visited some of the houses that were subject to the Government's interventions for the renewal of degraded housing in economically disadvantaged households.
In the afternoon, the Regional Secretary will sign four similar protocols in the municipality of Lajes das Flores for the renewal of degraded housing and acquisition of housing. Moreover, the Government will sign a cooperation protocol with Cáritas - Nossa Senhora do Rosário Parish, whose infrastructure was damaged by a storm.
Addressing to families, the Regional Secretary for Social Solidarity stressed that the Regional Government hopes the support measures contribute to "improving the living conditions and dignities," of each beneficiary.
In the current legislative period, the Azorean Government has already allocated 427 thousand Euros in housing support programmes for the Western Group islands.
