Government invests 5 million Euros in the rehabilitation of the regional housing stock, says Andreia Cardoso
The Regional Secretary for Social Solidarity met today in Angra do Heroísmo with the President of the Administration Board of the Society for the Promotion and Renewal of Housing and Infrastructures (SPRHI) to discuss projects and investments in the area of housing for 2015, "which represent a public investment over five million Euros."
At the end of the meeting, Andreia Cardoso revealed that the second phase of the rehabilitation and redevelopment of the Terra Chã Neighbourhood in Angra do Heroísmo and the Joaquim Alves Neighbourhood in Praia da Vitória is being prepared, representing a public investment amount to 4.2 million Euros that will cover over two hundred people.
"In both cases, the urban redevelopment interventions will be carried out in accordance with the legislation in force. They are part of a modern urban plan that takes into consideration energy efficiency, health conditions and life quality, the existence of green spaces, leisure areas, car parks as well as a series of social, community, sports, cultural and religious facilities," stressed Andreia Cardoso.
The Regional Secretary also stressed that the Government expects to launch this year the new phase for the rehabilitation of these two neighbourhoods on Terceira Island.
In addition to these interventions, Andreia Cardoso has planned minor interventions for the rehabilitation or recovery of the regional housing stock across the archipelago, namely on the islands of São Jorge, Pico, Faial, Graciosa, Terceira, São Miguel and Santa Maria. It represents an investment over 1.2 million Euros that will cover 243 families.
"Every family has the right to adequate housing and for these families, and several thousands of other families, this right has been achieved with the support and the investment of the Regional Government. This brings greater responsibility since these families are supported by the effort of all Azorean taxpayers," said the Regional Secretary.
