Social solidarity is fundamental principle of social cohesion, says Andreia Cardoso
The Regional Secretary for Social Solidarity stated today the role of social solidarity in building an inclusive society and developing public policies that promote social cohesion.
"Social solidarity, namely its axis inclusion/exclusion, is not only imperative for goals such as poverty eradication, but also for other goals as universal education and gender equality," said Andreia Cardoso. The government official spoke at the opening of the seminar "Humanize Society, an event promoted by Cáritas of Terceira.
Andreia Cardoso stressed that "the development process of public policies is important in building social cohesion," emphasising that "it will be more stable, the more inclusive and participatory these policies become."
"Inclusive policies are the bridge that connects all parties involved, ensuring greater legitimacy and support, which are critical to their effectiveness," added the government official.
"Unless we pay more attention as a society to issues of the inclusion/exclusion, some segments of the population will continue to be excluded from the progress achieved so far."
