Angra do Heroísmo ,  January 10, 2020

Regional Government to invest this year 1.5 million Euros in Terceira's regional road network

The Regional Director for Public Works and Communications stated in Angra do Heroísmo that the Regional Government will invest this year nearly 1.5 million Euros in the regional road network of Terceira Island, thus contributing to maintain the levels of safety and comfort of these road users.
Frederico Sousa spoke on the sidelines of a visit to the paving works of sections of the Regional Road no. 1 - 1 in the parish of São Sebastião. On the occasion, he stated that this contract work aims to upgrade the pavement, improve the drainage system and to apply thermoplastic hot paint. This 150-thousand Euro investment is expected to be concluded by the end of the first quarter.
The Regional Director stressed that the works "are part of a series of interventions that will continue in 2020. They include the completion of the car park for the area of Silveira and the intervention to redevelop the Caminho do Meio de São Carlos road, besides the conservation, maintenance and redevelopment interventions carried out by the Services of the Regional Secretariat for Transport and Public Works."
Frederico Sousa noted that these interventions “also contribute to the improvement of conditions, not only in terms of road safety but also in terms of reinforcing the comfort conditions of those who use Azorean roads."
The Regional Director stated that, “within the scope of implemented and planned interventions, there has been, whenever possible, a conciliation effort with the investment needs of municipal councils.” In this regard, he pointed out, as example, "the recent interventions in road network of Terceira Island and São Jorge Island, which were programmed and coordinated with the interventions to redevelop the municipal water supply networks, as is the case of this intervention in São Sebastião.”
Frederico Sousa pointed out that this is a Government's commitment towards the maintenance and upgrading of the regional road network on all the islands of the archipelago, thus "contributing to the reduction of accidents and improvement of comfort and safety" for road users.
