Government of the Azores deploys means and equipment to areas affected by bad weather
The Government of the Azores has been closely monitoring since yesterday the situation of the areas affected by the bad weather conditions that hit the archipelago, particularly on the islands of São Miguel, Terceira and Flores.
On the island of São Miguel, the most severe situations occurred in the municipalities of Nordeste and Povoação, where a landslide buried three houses in the hamlet of Burguete in the village of Faial da Terra.
The Regional Secretariat for Tourism and Transport has mobilised 80 technicians and equipment, including mechanical diggers, trucks and vans to the most affected areas in the archipelago. The intervention started on Wednesday night at 10 PM when the technicians and equipments of the Regional Directorate for Public Works, Transport and Communications were sent to these two municipalities.
The interventions were carried out throughout the night and the means deployed were reinforced in order to assist in the clearing of roads and the removal works of debris.
The Regional Secretariat for Natural Resources, through the Regional Directorate for the Environment, will send a team composed of 14 technicians and additional equipments for the clearing and removal works of debris that were accumulated in Grota da Lapa as a result of the landslide that hit the hamlet of Burguete, Faial da Terra.
