Vítor Fraga highlights role of "Casas do Povo" in the resolution of problems affecting populations

The Regional Secretary for Transport and Public Works highlighted the key role of "Casas do Povo," pointing out the importance of these institutions in the Azores. They are local associations with social and cultural purposes that provide a strong impetus to their community.

Vítor Fraga spoke Thursday in the village of Capelas during a tribute paid to emigrant Duarte Câmara and the Group of Friends of Fall River. The government official stressed that "Casas do Povo" have "developed a permanent cooperation" with the State and with the local power, with the sole purpose of solving the problems affecting the population.

In the specific case of Capelas, the Regional Secretary stressed the full commitment of the Government in the construction of the new Free Time Occupation Centre.

"We want you to feel supported in all stages of your work, naturally with access to resources they need to develop," said the government official, He ensured the full commitment of the Regional Government to the construction of the new facilities of the Free Time Occupation Centre of 'Casa do Povo' of Capelas."

Regarding the tribute to emigrant Duarte Câmara, who has organised campaigns for the acquisition of equipment to support the elderly and bedridden, Vítor Fraga pointed out that "everyone, without exception, must contribute to what we can and know, always with the goal of doing good to others.”

"This is the guidance and this is the way of politicians. We are here to do better," said the government official.

In his speech, Vítor Fraga stressed that the "Casa do Povo" of Capelas is a partner that stimulates the taste for community identity, considering that "all inhabitants of Capelas are proud of their 'Casa do Povo' and everyone acknowledges its role."

The Regional Secretary highlighted the role of "Casa do Povo" of Capelas in ensuring the provision of social services. In this context, he pointed out the "essential work in the response to the populations," particularly in home care, leisure activities, child care, day care and technical assistance; the latter is crucial to home care, not only in Capelas but also throughout the island.

Vítor Fraga made a special reference to "Casa do Povo" workers, stressing that they are "the real partners of the Regional Government and the Azorean society for the institutions they represent and as individuals," pointing out that "each of them contributed to make our citizens feel and live better."

For the Regional Secretary, solidarity is "much more than words, it is action," considering that this is what the 'Casa do Povo' of Capelas has been doing over the years.
