Degree in Economics from the Faculty of Economics of the University of Porto in July, 1978.
PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITY
- Director of the Azores Regional Statistics Service since 18/12/2000.
- Full member of the Statistical Council since 03/01/2001.
- Chief Adviser of the Regional Statistics Service staff since 1982 and he is responsible for the Technical Office and for the Project on Regional Accounts from 1986 and 1996, having calculated and published the GDP and other macroeconomic aggregates for the years 1980 to 1992 as well as the input/output Framework for the year 1986.
- Co-Director of the projects INTERREG III B: TIO-MAC (2001 Input-Output Framework); SIET-MAC (Statistical Indicator System for Rural Tourism); SIE-MAC (DW construction for the SREA); DAMARECE (System of Indicators of Conjuncture) and SICER-MAC (Integrated System of Regional and Tourism Satellite Accounts).
- Participation, on behalf of the Azores, in the work group for the implementation of the SEC-REG at a national level;
- Member of the Work Group that prepared Autonomous Regions Finance Act and the Regional Taxation Committee in 1998; Coordinator of the Compensation Commission for Insularity Costs, created by Resolution of the Regional Government.
- Member of the work groups that conducted studies on transport, cost of living and the impact of European funds for the Region.
- Assistant Professor at the University of the Azores at Angra do Heroísmo Campus from 1985 to 1987.
- Basic Education and High School teacher from 1978 to 1982.
OTHER ACTIVITIES
- Instructor of several training courses promoted by the Public Administration and Norma Açores.
- Participated, as Speaker, in Seminars at the University of the Azores on Development Models in March 1993 under the theme “Input-Output Model” and on Financial Relations between the State and the Autonomous region of the Azores in June 2000 under the theme “Adaptation of the Tax System.”
- Collaboration with several journals of the Region, having published articles on Economics and Economic Accountancy.
- Member of the Regional Legislative Assembly of the Azores in the Legislative Period 1996-2000, being the Vice-President of the Parliamentary Group of PS.
- President of the Permanent Economics Commission of the Regional Legislative Assembly of the Azores from 1996 to 2000.
- Publication of the book “Um Percurso Nos Açores - Finanças Regionais, Coesão e Desenvolvimento” in 2001.
