Application for smartphones and tablets provides itinerary on Azores handicrafts
The Vice-President of the Government stated in Angra do Heroísmo that the Azores have been "overcoming the challenge" of transforming handicrafts into an "increasingly qualified and innovative product" over the years.
Sérgio Ávila spoke during a visit to a craft production unit, during which he presented the multimedia bilingual application "Azores Handicrafts itineraries" for smartphones and tablets. He pointed out that this new communication platform is "the step that had been missing."
According to the Vice- President, the new application allows "access to more than 100 craft production units of the Azores as well as to know their georeference, the products they sell and their hours of operation, so that every tourist or every person who wants to purchase a certified regional craft product may have access to all information."
Sergio Ávila expressed the belief that this application will result in "the increase in direct sales" to tourists visiting the Azores, but it should also allow "non-personal purchases" as a result of the placement of "what is most traditional, handicrafts, in the most modern platforms of communication, knowledge and sales."
"The sales potential has grown significantly with the increase of tourism," said Sérgio Ávila. According to him, the evolution registered in recent months on Terceira and the prospects for the coming months must have "a very positive impact on handicrafts."
For the Vice-President of the Government, "this connection of knowledge was lacking and it is now done with a sense of modernity, seizing the opportunities of the latest forms of communication and information."
