The Vice-President revealed in Angra do Heroísmo that the data from the Employment and Vocational Training Institute (IEFP) confirm that the Region "is on the right track." The measures to support employment and economic revitalisation "must continue" towards a progressive reduction of unemployment and the creation of "even more and better jobs in the Azores."
According to the data revealed by IEFP, unemployment registered in the Region a decrease of 12.2 percent in May, compared to the same month of 2017.
"The figures demonstrates that the Azores registered 8,344 unemployed in May, which corresponds to 1,159 fewer unemployed in comparison with the same month of the previous year," said Sérgio Ávila. He added the data validate the "downward trend registered since unemployed reached its highest level, thus confirming that the priority strategy defined by the Government has yield good results."
"In addition to this decrease, the number of new registrations decreased 44% in May over the same month of the previous year," the government official added, stressing that "there were 725 fewer requests compared to the same period of time."
"We will continue to work for those still awaiting a solution," Sérgio Ávila stressed, assuring that the Azorean Government is committed to generating wealth, creating jobs and combating job insecurity.
