Private initiative submitted investment projects amounting to 188 million Euros under incentive schemes in the first half of this year, reveals Sérgio Ávila
The Vice-President of the Government stressed today the "sign given" by the investments made by Insco and Grupo Bensaúde in the Continente Hypermarket in Angra do Heroísmo, which demonstrate the "confidence in economic recovery that we are beginning to feel in the Azores."
Speaking at the ceremony that marked the 18th anniversary of that commercial establishment and the opening of a new shopping gallery, Sérgio Ávila revealed that "a total of 571 new projects were submitted by companies for support measures to private investment."
The government official underlined that these projects "represent an overall investment of 188 million Euros," and will result, after their implementation, "in the creation of over 1,471 jobs."
For the Vice-President of the Government, these projects "will undoubtedly bring added value to regional economy and create more jobs."
However, there is still "a very long way to resume the levels of economic activity and employment that existed in the past," said Sérgio Ávila.
In his speech, the government official conveyed his belief that the emerging signs of recovery are an indication the Regional Government is on the "right track," which will be "easily and rapidly followed by investors and companies, if they follow the example that is being highlighted today."
The Vice-President of the Government congratulated Grupo Bensaúde for the anniversary of Continente hypermarket and the investment made, considering that "they demonstrate the confidence in the Azores," which is worthy of recognition.
