Regional Education System will have the necessary number of teachers in the next school year, ensures Avelino Meneses
The Regional Secretary for Education and Culture stated in Ponta Delgada that the Azorean Government will ensure the necessary number of teachers for the normal functioning of the Regional Education System at all levels of education.
Avelino Meneses spoke to journalists at the end of a meeting with the leaders of the Teachers' Democratic Union of the Azores, adding that, with regard to the hiring of teachers for next school year, his department is conducting "a survey on the needs of each school."
The Secretary for Education considered that, at this time, it is "premature" to talk about figures. However, he noted that the parameters to be used in reference to next school year "will certainly be identical to those used in the school year that is ending."
According to Avelino Meneses, the Government's goal is to "ensure the necessary number of teachers at all levels of education so that, in the event of teaching shortages, there is a possibility to make a timely replacement. In the case of follow up of students with special needs, we have also the necessary number of support teachers" in order to prevent support teachers from being "diverted to the replacement of other teachers."
"Of course, we cannot provide a full guarantee, because unexpected situations always happen in the education system, which, despite everything, is quite vast," stressed the government official.
Avelino Meneses conveyed his confidence that the next school year, the second after the implementation of ProSucesso - Azores for Education, programme for the promotion of school success, goes "smoothly as the year that now ended."
