Construction of new slaughter on Graciosa and Faial concludes regional slaughter network, announces Vasco Cordeiro
The President of the Government announced today that the construction of the new slaughterhouses on Graciosa and Faial Islands will allow the conclusion of the regional slaughter network, a fundamental investment that will strengthen the competitiveness of the regional meat sector.
"This component of intervention in infrastructures, with ongoing investments amounting to 15 million Euros, is a fundamental aspect for the meat sector," said Vasco Cordeiro, after visiting the construction works of the new Graciosa slaughterhouse.
In the beginning of the statutory visit to this island, the President of the Government, who also mentioned the ongoing works in the slaughterhouses of São Miguel and Terceira, stressed that the competitiveness of the sector also involves other components, such as improving the management of available tools like POSEI.
"The Government has strengthened the sharing of the number of animals slaughtered on a monthly basis with partners so that farmers themselves may better measure the management of their farms and the benefits of European premiums," noted the government official.
"A third component regards the concerted action among various players to ensure greater competitiveness and better conditions for the entire sector so that it may better face the challenges of a sector of growing importance in our Region," said Vasco Cordeiro to journalists.
According to the President of the Government, transportation is another of the areas in which the Executive is working, being a component of great importance for this sector. It is intended to reduce, as much as possible, the time between slaughter and the arrival of the product to the final costumer.
