Audit for renewal of international forest management certification on São Miguel conducted with "excellent results," says Regional Director
The Regional Director for Forest Resources highlighted the "excellent results" of the conducted by FSC® - Forest Stewardship Council® (License Code FSC® C119744) for the renewal of the Forest Management Certification of the Forest Perimeter and Regional Woods on São Miguel Island.
"Five years after the Regional Directorate for Forest Resources was awarded the certificate, the audit for its renewal has been conducted, having focused on the verification of compliance with all FSC principles and criteria as well as with other requirements," stated Anabela Isidoro. The government official spoke on the sidelines of a visit to Furnas Forest Nursery on the island of São Miguel.
The Management Certification of the Forest Perimeter and Regional Woods on São Miguel Island was awarded for the first to the Regional Directorate for Forest Resources in late 2014.
Currently, the entire forest and natural areas within the Forest Perimeter and Regional Woods on São Miguel Island are being managed in accordance with the FSC® - Forest Stewardship Council® standards, stretching over an area of 3,707 hectares.
Anabela Isidoro pointed out that the audit was particularly demanding due to the introduction of the new FSC Standard for Forest Management in Portugal, which came into effect on May 25.
"The audit was conducted at the end of October with excellent results, Currently, it awaits the revision of the respective document by a certifying entity for the conclusion of the process and revalidation of the certificate for another five-year period," said the Director Regional.
