Government of the Azores supports winegrowers in the renewal of the Landscape of the Pico Island Vineyard Culture
The Government of the Azores has allocated a considerable amount to support the preservation and renewal of the Landscape of the Pico Island Vineyard Culture according to the provisions of the Management Plan which was jointly approved with the Special Land Management Plan.
Hence, one of the estimated financial support will be awarded to the renewal of vineyards in “currais” (small stone enclosures), comprising the owners of land located in the area classified as World Heritage Site as well as in the respective Buffer Zone.
The Azorean Government was satisfied with the fact that 18.70 hectares of vineyards in “currais” were renewed or at a renewal phase between 2004 and 2010, which corresponds to a non-refundable investment of 370,000.00 Euros.
The allocated support encompasses all investment phases, from cutting the vegetation and renewing the traditional stone enclosures to grafting and close pruning.
The applications for this financial aid take place in the Technical Office of the Landscape of the Pico Island Vineyard Culture from January to September. Further information on the financial support system will be provided by the Pico Island Natural Park via the telephone number 292 207 375.
