Government of the Azores allocates 20.6 million Euros for investment in Environment and Planning in 2015
The Regional Secretary for Agriculture and Environment highlighted in Horta the 8% increase in the estimated funds granted under the investment plan in the area of Environment and Planning. The proposed Plan for 2015 provides the allocation of 20.6 million Euros.
Speaking at a hearing at the Committee on Parliamentary Affairs, Environment and Labour of the Legislative Assembly, Luís Neto Viveiros underlined that the increased funding aims to meet strategic goals, such as the development of the Regional Plan on Climate Change or the completion of Waste Processing Centres, which currently covers seven islands of the archipelago.
Following the conclusion of this process, the Government will move forward with "the sealing of dumps" on these islands, an investment of nearly 3.5 million Euros that has already "started on the islands of Flores and Graciosa."
For the Regional Secretary, "it is also important to highlight the financial effort in the Plan and Budget presented by the Regional Government "concerning the interventions to be carried out in streams."
"It represents a growth of 41%, Luís Neto Viveiros said, adding that the Government will invest nearly 5.8 million Euros "in direct interventions in streams, including cleaning actions, reshaping of banks or protection works" throughout the archipelago. These interventions are intended to ensure the safety of the population.
