Luís Neto Viveiros highlights entrepreneurial "courage and boldness" of the milk sector
The Regional Secretary for Agriculture and Environment stressed on S. Miguel the entrepreneurial "courage and boldness" of Azorean milk producers and agro-industrial entrepreneurs, stressing that "farmers have responded remarkably to challenges."
Luís Neto Viveiros spoke at the Producer of Excellence Award Ceremony, an initiative of the São Miguel Young Farmers' Association. The government official stated that the "dynamics of the sector" is evidenced through the investment in modernisation and the entry of more young farmers into the sector.
"Since the implementation of the Rural Development Programme - PRORURAL +, less than two years ago, the Government has approved 123 projects for the modernisation of farms, representing an investment of 11 million Euros," the government official said, adding that are currently 174 projects under consideration.
The Regional Secretary also conveyed "his satisfaction" with the entry of young farmers into this sector, as "evidenced by the approval of 25 new installations out of a total of 72."
The Regional Secretary analysed the situation of the regional milk sector before a round table on the theme "Milk, present and future," an event held under a ceremony that aims to reward and encourage production quality. In this regard, he emphasised his belief in the future of the industry.
"Despite all the difficulties and challenges the sector has faced" as a result of the disposal difficulties in international markets, Luís Neto Viveiros considered that the sector is "crucial" for regional economic growth, stabilising population density and promoting" inclusion and social welfare."
