Regional Government awards 400 thousand-Euro work in Caldeira Rasa road on Flores Island
The Regional Secretary for Agriculture and Forestry, João Ponte, has awarded the contract work for the paving of Caldeira Rasa-Terreiros rural road on the island of Flores to the company Tecnovia-Açores, Sociedade de Empreitadas SA, a public investment of 400 thousand Euros.
The placement of bituminous concrete pavement in this road, stretching over an area of 1,800 metres, covers the villages of Mosteiro and Fajãzinha in the municipality of Lajes das Flores. The intervention aims to renew the existing pavement, improve drainage conditions and reinforce road safety.
This contract work, carried out under the responsibility of the Regional Directorate for Forest Resources, is of great importance to the island of Flores insofar as the Caldeira Rasa road gives access to twenty farms and 50 hectares of pastures.
For the Government of the Azores, this is another relevant work in the redevelopment strategy of public agricultural infrastructures as it allows the improvement and modernisation the accessibility of farmers, thus contributing to the competitiveness of their farms and to the progress of working conditions in the agricultural sector.
On the island of Flores, the Government opened last year the improvement and paving works of Fonte do Frade-Caldeira da Lomba rural road. With a budget of 400 thousand Euros, it covered an area over 180 hectares of pasture in the municipality of Lajes das Flores.
Over the last 10 years, the Government has invested more than four million Euros in agricultural roads on the island of Flores.
