Regional and National Governments to analyse national and international goals in waste management and water resources
The Regional Secretary for Agriculture and the Environment will meet with Minister of the Environment in Lisbon next Thursday. They will analyse issues related to the fulfilment of national and international goals, particularly in the areas of waste management, water resources and water quality.
In addition to the exchange of greetings and the provision of a general explanation of the actions developed by the Regional Government, Luís Neto Viveiros will have the opportunity to inform Matos Fernandes that the Region has already concluded the drafting of the Regional Management Plan of the Hydrographic Region of the Azores until 2021 and the Management Plan of Flood Risks, taking into account Portugal's obligations under the Water and Floods Directives.
Despite having its own powers in waste management legislation, the Government of the Azores also plans to convey the importance of safeguarding the interests of both Autonomous Regions and their specificities under the issuing of new licenses for managing bodies of the Integrated Packaging Waste Management (SIGRE) and the revision of funding models.
