Regional Director for Youth says that knowing Europe better is an asset to the development of the Azores

The Regional Director for Youth attended the opening of the itinerant exhibition  “Euro, our currency” at the Ribeira Grande Secondary School on Tuesday. This initiative is promoted by the Government of the Azores, through the Cabinet of the Regional Under Secretary for European Affairs and External Cooperation.

During the opening of the exhibition, the Regional Director for Youth addressed to the audience, stressing the importance of disseminating among Azorean youngsters the potentialities of being integrated in the European Union, as well as the opportunities brought by it, such as innovation, competitiveness, cultural enhancement and social development.

"European programmes such as Youth in Action, Erasmus, Eurodyssey, among others, are certainly an asset for the personal growth of youngsters," said Bruno Pacheco. But more than that, "we are truly believe that a better understanding of Europe among youngsters, in addition to being an enriching personal experience, is an asset for the development of the Azores in the medium and long term."

This exhibition, which will be open to the public until December this year, comprises thirty-eight panels and six thematic areas, featuring several aspects related to the Euro currency and its implementation process: "Euro - general information"; "a single currency for a single market"; "a symbol for European currency"; "Euro bills - from design to circulation,"; "what are the criteria for joining the Euro area?" and "what is money?".
