The Third Edition of LABJOVEM – Young Creators of the Azores Competition was presented at a press conference held at Casa Armando Cortes Rodrigues, “Morada da Escrita” (the Address of Writing), in Ponta Delgada on Tuesday.
LABJOVEM competition is a project developed by the Government of the Azores, in partnership with Burra de Milho Cultural Association, which aims to encourage and promote young artists from different artistic areas, serving as a platform for a new generation of Azorean artists.
The present edition comprises the following areas: Architecture, Fine Arts, Performing Arts, Fashion Design, Graphic Design, Photography, Illustration and Comics, Literature, Music and Video.
The creation of the area of Performing Arts is one of the novelties brought by the third edition of LABJOVEM, encompassing the areas of theatre, dance and performance, which were previously independent categories.
Furthermore, according to the Regional Director for Youth, this third edition is “the edition of the consolidation and internationalisation of this project. In this context, the applications for this year’s edition will be open not only to Azorean youngsters and young Azorean descendents residing in Azorean Communities, but also to all youngsters of Azorean descent, up to the 3rd generation, from any part of the world.
The projects selected under this competition will be presented at a Regional Display. The application period for submission of application takes place until October 31, 2011.
The LABJOVEM Display is an itinerant programme that aims to disseminate the work of young artists, comprising a display of the projects in the areas of Architecture, Fine Arts, Fashion Design, Graphic Design, Photography, Illustration and Comics, presentation of shows of the projects in the areas of Performing Arts and Music, a Video Display, the publication of literary works and the preparation of a catalogue containing the selected projects.
During the press conference, Bruno Pacheco mentioned “the Government’s commitment to disseminate the selected works, from some areas, at an international level by presenting them in countries such as the United States or Canada.”
Likewise the two previous editions of LABJOVEM, the jury will select a project, among the projects selected in each area to integrate the LABJOVEM Display, whose author will be awarded a scholarship. In addition, this competition also includes the
the categories LABCOMUNIDADES (Labcommunities) - to distinguish the project, among the selected ones, created by Azorean descendants, up to the 3rd generation, and LABREVELAÇÃO (Labrevelation) - to distinguish the project, among the selected ones, designed by youngsters under 20 years of age until October 31.
