Marta Guerreiro highlights UrbHorta's swimming pools project for energy efficiency promotion
The Regional Secretary for Energy, Environment and Tourism stressed on Faial Island that "the Azoreans are more aware for energy efficiency," pointing out the example of UrbHorta's swimming pools.
Marta Guerreiro spoke after a visit to the project. On the occasion, she stated that "the pool will be heated by two heat pumps with 80 incorporated thermodynamic panels that will replace two diesel-powered boilers, reducing primary energy by 37%. Moreover, the installation of photovoltaic panels for self-consumption will contribute to a 10% energy consumption from green sources."
"This is an energy efficiency project under way in Horta municipal pools, a true example that highlights the role of various sectors in the decarbonation of the economy through energy, which should grow more," the Regional Secretary said, stressing the importance of the initiative undertaken by different Azorean entities towards this purpose.
"Pursuing the best practices in terms of energy efficiency and energy management, whether through behaviours or through systems and equipment, is a strategic resource saving solution that also generates greater financial availability to Azorean companies and institutions," said Marta Guerreiro.
The government official stated that "encouraging its adoption across the different regional sectors also boosts the economy, along with the clear advantages associated with the promotion of environmental sustainability, which is essential in a region where nature is a key aspect."
According to her, the Regional Government has been undertaking its efforts on energy based on this concern, "carrying out actions from awareness raising to the provision of incentive systems aimed at the optimisation of energy consumption in close collaboration with various entities, companies and business associations."
