The Regional Directorate for Culture, through the Angra do Heroísmo Museum, promotes a guided dive to the wreck of the steamship Lidador located in Angra do Heroísmo bay on August 26. This initiative is the result of a partnership between the Museum, the Overseas History Centre and the Azores Sea Observatory.
Lidador was a Brazilian iron steam ship that sank on February 7, 1878, when she was preparing to head towards Brazil with Azorean emigrants.
The guided dive to the wreck is part of the programme designed to promote "Histórias que Vêm do Mar" exhibition (Stories that come from the sea), which is open to the public at the Angra do Heroísmo Museum until September 29. Prior registration is required via electronic address [email protected] or telephone number 295 240 800 until 4 PM of Friday.
Participation is free, but is limited to 10 members aged equal or over 14 years; minors are required to present an authorisation from their parents or legal guardians.
Participants will meet at the Museum at 10 AM. Before the dive, they will visit the "Histórias que Vêm do Mar" exhibition, which features iconic objects recovered in the Azores sea, mainly in Horta and Angra do Heroísmo bays, two of the most important Azorean ports since the 16th century.
The visit to the exhibition and the guided free-diving on the site of the sinking of Lidador will be organised by the researchers at the Overseas History Centre.
