Azorean Government promotes Performing Arts Laboratory

The Regional Secretariat for Education, Science and Culture, through the Regional Directorate for Culture, will promote a Performing Arts Laboratory on the island of S. Miguel during the months of May, June and July. The initiative is addressed at all members of theatre groups and the public in general.

The Laboratory will have a maximum duration of 66 hours and will be held three times a week after working hours. This initiative will be conducted under the artistic guidance of Nelson Cabral, who will teach the modules on body expression and movement, voice, interpretation and production, in conjunction with Marco Torre, who will be responsible for the music module.

Sessions will take place at the Teatro Micaelense on May 27, 28 and 29, at the Auditorium of the Ponta Delgada Public Library and Regional Archive on June 4, 5 and 6 and will return to Teatro Micaelense in the last two weeks of June and the first week of July.

With a maximum limit of 20 participants and a minimum of 10 participants, this training course, which is organised under the 2014 Artistic Season, is addressed at people aged 16 or over. Participants are required to pay a registration fee of 40 Euros. The pre-registration period will take place until May 24.

This initiative aims to provide participants with technical and artistic tools in the context of theatrical interpretation as well as to develop their theoretical awareness on theatre art, its history, importance and socio-cultural reach, and the necessary mechanisms for its development.

In addition, the Performing Arts Laboratory intends to involve trainees in the definition of drama and the staging of a theatre play that will be presented to the public at the end of the training course, and address the issues related to the promotion of theatre art and the emergence of new audiences.
