The "Azores Cultural Route" (available in Portuguese and English), an edition published by the Presidency of the Government, through the Regional Directorate for Culture, will be presented at the auditorium of the Ponta Delgada Public Library and Regional Archive on July 9 on 6:30 PM.
The "Azores Cultural Route" includes 28 articles written by experts, whose contents cover wide a variety of topics: the discovery and settlement of the Azores; historical and underwater heritage recognised by UNESCO; biodiversity and volcanology; natural and marine resources; traditional, civil, religious and military architecture; autonomic and cultural institutions; the university; religious beliefs and popular festivities; the most prominent personalities in the area of culture; handicrafts; traditional cuisine; tea and bullfighting.
According to the Regional Director for Culture, "this is an important tool for cultural dissemination that is targeted at the public in general. However, it includes texts whose contents go beyond mere information as the articles are written by experts on various topics.
Indeed, these texts offer reflections with considerable interest and even some essays. For this reason, the cultural route is addressed at a more demanding public, who wishes to have an in-depth contact with culture as well as a richer experience. Hence, this initiative also contributes to foster the Azores as a prime destination in the area of cultural tourism."
The Portuguese version of the cultural route was presented in Lisbon at the Book Fair that took place last April and was one of the best-selling works at the Azores Pavilion.
The presentation session of the "Azores Cultural Route" to be held in Ponta Delgada will be attended by the Regional Director for Culture, Jorge Paulus Bruno; the project's scientific coordinator, António Machado Pires, who will also present the work; the Director of the National Cultural Centre (the institution responsible for producing the work) and Guilherme d'Oliveira Martins.
